Field Notes
Notes on making things slowly.
I make small things out of wood, paper and code, mostly in the evenings. This is where I write down what I learn while doing it, so I can find it again later. More about me.
Writing
- Repairing a chair
- Twenty minutes
- What the bread taught me
- Tools that disappear
- Why I still print things out
- A year of film
- The kerf is part of the design
- On keeping a commonplace book
Things I've made
- Walnut desk trayA shallow tray with a single finger-jointed corner I'm still proud of.
- Contact sheetsA small script that lays out scanned film frames the way a darkroom contact print would.
- Shelf clockQuartz movement, oak case, and a dial cut from a single sheet of brass.
- Margin cardsIndex cards with a ruled margin, printed twenty to a sheet. I use them every day.
